EXCITING opportunities for jobseekers, people aiming to be their own boss and existing companies with fresh ideas will be unveiled under one roof on Wednesday April 30.
The Evening Courier Jobs and Enterprise Fair at North Bridge Leisure Centre, Halifax, will help guide would-be employees and entrepreneurs – as well existing businesses – to the best advice and information to turn their plans into reality.

Admission is free and the annual event usually attracts about 2,000 people.

Tomorrow's has some dramatic new services designed to help manufacturers and benefit their workforces.

Existing companies with ideas for growth or products they want to launch will be able to benefit from advice from Business Link and attend informative seminars on boosting trade.

Calderdale Council is offering manufacturing companies the opportunity to enhance the skills of their employees by taking up training bursaries, made available through the Calderdale Manufacturing Alliance.

The bursaries are designed to address "skills gaps" and will be targeted at developing workforce skills around health and safety, employee law and "soft skills", such as team-working.

The bursaries, which are part-financed by the EU, are being administered through Growing Calderdale, the council's new service dedicated to working with businesses to promote the growth and sustainability of the local economy.

Fiona Thurlbeck, project leader of Growing Calderdale – formerly Halifax Works – said: "Through developing skills, businesses become more productive and competitive, at the same time as the employees are helped along on their career paths."

About 23 per cent of Calderdale's workforce is employed in manufacturing.

Growing Calderdale is offering bursaries of up to £300 per manufacturing business, to be used for the training of one or more of their employees.

To be eligible businesses must be within urban areas of central Halifax, Illingworth, Ovenden, Mixenden or Siddal.

Advisers from Growing Calderdale will be present at the Jobs and Enterprise Fair.

Mandy Baker, Evening Courier commercial manager, urged everyone with an interest in changing their lives or boosting their business to attend tomorrow between 11am and 7pm.

"There's so much choice and even more happening this year," she said.
