Prices are boosted by prizewinners

PRIZEWINNING lambs brought auction prices up on last year's figures.
Skipton Auction Mart's opening show kick-started the New Year, with sheep prices well up on the final sale of last year.
John and Judy Garnett, of Draughton, Skipton, clinched the inaugural title of 2009 with a pen of five 47kg Beltex-Texel cross prime lambs.
They were bought for a show-topping £88 per head by Gerald Medcalf, of Jagger Green Hall Farm, Halifax.
With over 2,100 prime lambs and ewes, the overall average selling price of 161.3p per kilo bettered the final sheep sale average in December by over 30p per kilo.
Jeremy Eaton, general manager at Skipton Auction Mart, said: "Prime stock started the year at exceptional prices, partly due to short supply and the value of sterling against the euro for meat exporters."
