Europe's largest single price retailer Poundland opens a new store at Southgate, Halifax, today.
The firm has 174 stores in Britain selling branded goods at £1, serving more than million customers every week.

Trading director David Coxon said: "The £1 price hasn't changed since we opened our first store 18 years ago.

"Our current customers love us – and we are sure Halifax shoppers will too."

The store will hold a family fun day on Saturday when the doors open at 9am.

There will be £100 worth of Poundland vouchers to be won throughout the day in the "checkout challenge" event and the first 50 customers at the tills will receive a free bottle of sparkling wine.

A DJ will be in the store to entertain customers along with Pulse 97.5FM & 102.5 FM street team who will be giving away balloons and sweets throughout the day.
