BUSINESS students were dressed for success as they started training in workplace skills.
Coaches from professional services firm Deloitte joined Calderdale College students to give them a series of workshops on how to make themselves employable.

The students, aged between 16 and 18, are taking BTEC business courses.

Training is supplemented by workshops delivered by a team of volunteer professionals from Deloitte's Leeds office.

The students will end up with an extra qualification in employability skills.

Twenty students took part in the first workshop on interview skills this week in the college's boardroom with participants asked to "dress for success."

Karen Porter, course leader for BTEC business at Calderdale College, said: "This new link with a company of the stature of Deloitte is a huge bonus for our students and could give them the edge when they are applying for jobs.

"We are the only training provider in Calderdale that Deloitte is working with and its validation of the qualification is an assurance of quality and professionalism.

"Most of our BTEC students will progress on to our higher education courses in business and, thanks to our partnership with Leeds Metropolitan University, can now go all the way to complete a full bachelor of arts degree in business at Calderdale College, either full or part-time.

"These employability skills will help those planning to combine employment with study."

Bob Thust, employability programme manager at Deloitte, said: "The Deloitte employability skills volunteer programme offers students an insight into the realities of working in the private sector and training in the key areas of CV writing, interview and presentation skills.

"In addition to the core training in employability, we are confident this will help young people to secure quality jobs with major employers and are delighted to be able to offer it to students at Calderdale College."
