The McVitie's Cake Company has introduced improvements to the manufacturing process though a programme from Kirkdale Industrial Training Services of Brighouse.
Eight Halifax McVitie's employees have completed a NVQ in Business Improvement Techniques.

It gave accreditation to previous training undertaken by McVities in the areas of lean manufacturing, workplace organisation, continuous improvement techniques and visual management systems, among other subjects.

The delegates received the equivalent of eight days training, coaching and mentoring – all funded through the Train to Gain programme.

Stephen Edwards, manufacturing change leader at McVitie's, said: "They saw this as a great opportunity for personal development."

The Train to Gain programme is designed to provide training and mentoring to staff, ensuring they have the right skills to do the best job, and helping boost productivity for their employer.

The process involves an analysis to find out which development programmes best suit the need, then working with an assessor to develop and enhance the skills of each individual .

KITS delivers a variety of NVQs under the Train to Gain programme, specialising in manufacturing, engineering and motor vehicle industries. For further information contact KITS on 01484 711462 or e-mail info@kits-training.co.uk
