The Siddal duo began with a first round game against Steve Swallow and Ian Ryding of Hipperholme and led from the start to win by 15-12.

In the quarter final they faced the home pairing of Alwyn Guide and Dave Greenwood and , after leading by 10-2, had to hold off a late fight-back by the West End duo before winning again by 15-12.

Their bid to claim the trophy seemed set to come unstuck as they trailed Northowram's Paul Gray and John Lister by 3-10 but they fought back to level at 12, 13 and 14 before snatching a 15-14 victory.

The Gassons' progress to the final took longer as they had to negotiate a preliminary round against the West End duo of Alan Suddick and Richard Buxton.

A 9-1 lead was converted into a 15-11 victory, leading to a second game against Dave Greenwood and Stephen Lowther of Elland CA & BC which they won by 15-7.

In the quarter-final against Halifax's Steve Holmes and Steve Wandiak they opened with a four at the first end but were behind by 7-9 before running out to win by 15-9.

In the semi-final against Terry Ness and Brian Hildred of Siddal the Gasssons took an early lead of 5-0 and were never headed, although Hildred and Ness drew level at 11 before the Gassons completed a 15-11 victory.

Helliwell and Greenwood opened with a four at the first end of the final and although the Gassons responded with a three at the next end, the Siddal pair were never behind as they went on win by 15-6.
