MYTHOLMROYD BC's Clive Austin had a £600 cheque snatched from his grasp in the £2350 Vital Services Classic at New Street BC, Littleborough on Sunday.
Austin held the jack at 20-14 against Darren Griffiths in the final, having made a 12 break after trailing 14-8.
However, his Chadderton opponent had one bowl left to save the match and, having done so, found a tricky mark over the middle of the green to run out a 21-20 winner.
In the semi finals, Austin had beaten Syke`s John Wade 21-12 while Griffiths beat Richard Hobson of Hill Crest 21-16.Hobson had sprung a major shock in the quarter finals by knocking out defending champion Graham Wilson 21-17.
Andy Cairns presented the prizes and thanked event organiser Raymond Lorimer.
