CARRYING on a tradition going back more than 60 years, Akroydon Victoria BC president Raymond Stansfield and treasurer Jim Coward raised the curtain on the new season by sending down the first woods this week.
The event was watched by a healthy turnout of members despite the chilly weather, and signalled the start of what will hopefully be another successful season for this thriving club.

Members can now make use of a new viewing lounge where they can watch the bowling in comfort, and the club also has a burgeoning junior section with many of the younger players now playing in Akroydon Victoria's teams in the local leagues.

"The future is looking really bright and the club is going from strength to strength with a hard working committee including secretary Alan Parker and members who all do their bit," said club spokesman Roy Pollard.
