BRIGHOUSE Town have signed former Leeds United and Doncaster Rovers midfielder Simon Watson.
The 29-year-old, who was born in Strabane, Northern Ireland, played alongside the likes of Gordon Strachan, David Batty, Harry Kewell and Jonathan Woodgate at Elland Road before suffering a serious leg injury which set him back in the professional ga
me.
He joined Doncaster Rovers then Harrogate Town, who he helped win the UniBond first division title.
He has also had spells at Farsley Celtic, Liversedge, Harrogate Railway and Tadcaster Albion.
"I've known Simon for quite a few years, through my involvement at Liversedge," said Brighouse boss Mark Brier.
"He scored one of the best goals I've ever seen at this level of football, playing for my reserve side at Clayborn which just had people's jaws hanging open.
"He is calm, adds massive experience and quality to our club and will help our first team and the younger players with his knowledge.
"He's not fully fit yet after an operation and we'll take it steady but I'm delighted to have him at the club."
Town have also signed former Halifax Town youth player Glen O'Gara.
The defender has played in the United States and last season was at Farsley Celtic.
Brighouse Town's NCE League first division fixtures will be released within the next couple of weeks or so.
The NCE League have to wait until the Blue Square and Unibond League release their fixtures so that any clashes can be avoided.
The early rounds in the FA Cup and FA Vase - which are drawn tomorrow - must also be taken into consideration.
Halifax Town's Unibond One North fixtures are due to be released on July 15.
BLUE Square Premier newcomers Chester City have appointed former Huddersfield Town boss Mick Wadsworth as their new manager.
The 58-year-old's former roles include a spell in charge of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Liverpool striker Fernando Torres believes the club have to hang on to the likes of Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano if they are to depose Manchester United as Barclays Premier League champions.
The two midfielders are major targets for Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively but Torres is in agreement with manager Rafael Benitez that neither should be sold - despite potential offers in excess of £25millon each.
"I worry about losing my team-mates but if we can keep our best players and bring in some more, we'll be even stronger," he said. "The important thing is we're getting closer to the title."
