Chess: Hebden B give notice of title intent with big victory

HEBDEN Bridge B, who are strong favourites for the Calderdale League Division Two title after their unexpected relegation, had a big win over their third team.
However Wheatley, who were formerly Arden B, showed they could challenge after a comprehensive win over Hebden Bridge Juniors, while in the final match Courier C made home advantage pay as they edged out Halifax B.

Division One saw only two matche
s, Courier B entertained Arden A and winning 3-2, while Hebden Bridge A had a convincing victory over Brighouse.

Players are reminded that entries are being taken for the Calderdale Championships at the Trades Club in Hebden Bridge and run as usual by John Kerrane.

The competition is open to all residents of Calderdale and to clubs affiliated to the local league.

The first round is scheduled to commence at 7.45 on Monday, November 3, and entries can be telephoned to John on 01422 842426.

This is a five round Swiss system, not a knockout event, meaning all players will get five games irrespective of results.
