Town boss Jim Vince hailed his muddy marvels as they splashed their way to victory at Clitheroe last night.
Torrential rain and strong wind made it an unpleasant night at Shawbridge, but the Shaymen arrested their recent slide with a 2-1 win thanks to a Liam McManus own goal and a Ritchie Sutton strike.

"It was horrible out there," said Vince. "And in the first 15 minutes of the game we looked all at sea at the back.

"But Jon Kennedy showed he's a good keeper with three good saves.

"We switched a few things round and as soon as Lincoln Adams came to the left and Cavell Coo went to the right we gelled.

"We imposed ourselves after that, we were effective and we scored two good goals."

The opener may have gone in off McManus, after home keeper Martin Fearon had parried a Coo cross, but it was the product of good approach play while the second from Sutton was a magnificent strike.

"It was a great ball from Ritchie out to Cavell for the first goal and the movement was good and he whipped a good ball in," said Vince.

"Ritchie's goal was stunning, but you know what you are going to get from him.

"He is very combative, he will get in people's faces.

"He was a threat in central midfield as well as a nuisance.

"All in all, the lads have worked extremely hard in poor conditions and we have won a game. "

The win was vital for Town's play-off hopes as it restored the gap between themselves and the chasing pack.

"You lose a couple of games and the world crashes in," said Vince. "This is pressure.

"What you have to do is stand up and be counted, take the criticism on the chin and use it as a positive.

"In games like this you have to dig in and show how good you are as a team.

"We rode our luck at times, but we won and that will do for me."

James Riley made his debut alongside Tony Barras in the centre of defence after signing from Harrogate Railway

"It took him 15 minutes to get into the game but once he did, he was strong and looked a good player," said Vince.
