TOWN boss Jim Vince is looking for a double defensive boost ahead of tonight's Unibond One North clash at Clitheroe (7.45).
The Shay chief strengthened his squad yesterday when he completed the signing of centre back James Riley from Harrogate Railway until the end of the season.

And he is hoping to be able to include Cavell Coo in the squad for the game in Lancashire after his recovery from a hamstring injury.

"I have seen James play four or five times this season and he has been a rock for Harrogate Railway," said Vince. "Harrogate Town came in for him but he turned them down.

"He is very keen to come and play for us and should be a tremendous acquisition.

"Harrogate have been very good throughout the negotiations, allowing him to sign for us by not standing in his way.

"We are also hoping that Cavell will be available tonight.

"He trained on Saturday and has shown no reaction to that."

Vince is keen to shore up a defence which was caught out three times at Newcastle Blue Star at the weekend.

"We need to be stronger at the back," he said. "We are leaking silly goals at the moment.

"As I said at the weekend, Newcastle's first goal on Saturday was very good.

"But if we keep a clean sheet we have a chance of winning the game."

Vince has also called for his frontmen to step up to the plate after successive blanks against Blue Star and Woodley Sports.

"We have got to take the chances when we get them" he said. "It is something we have struggled with all year.

"Nathan Joynes will make a difference for us, but we are just not firing in the final third at the moment."

Vince has reported no new injury worries ahead of tonight's game.

Curzon Ashton beat Salford City 2-1 in Unibond One North last night.

one of the main reasons why we dont have a stable and solid defence is because you sign a new defender every day vince.

one of the main reasons we havent had enough attacking threat vince is cause you dont play the best stricker you might win some games if you play stott.

why can no manager that we ever get see what the problem is and every manager we get is tacticly inept.

it was obvious saturday we need a new centre half to replace barass, hes got one in, a quality one too by all accounts.

Stott should play upfront i agree but when he does, hes the main target for critisism every bad little thing he does wrong people get at him

without stott's 21 goals this season though where would we be in the table if he didnt play for us.
he is a good player for this level and needs to start tonight over that yound brown not junior need junior in the side as well.

the reason though for the defencive mix ups is the dfence has been changed so much this season it needs to be a settled defence for the last part of the season and i am confident of promotion.
