ALEX Kaye and Rick Laycock did enough last weekend to win the Premier Division prizes for June and July in the Courier Sport/Briggs Priestley Engravers Awards.
SBCI batsman Kaye won a close-run contest to be the leading runmaker during the middle two months of the season. His 46 in the win at Northowram Hedge Top last week took his tally to 450 runs in the eight qualifying games with his 137 not out against
Triangle his best score. Nathan Madden, who scored 67 for Triangle in that meeting with SBCI, has finished runner-up.
Laycock's five for 21 against struggling champs Warley last week enabled him to come through and beat Sowerby's Martin Schofield to the bowling prize. The teenager took 32 wickets in the qualifying period.
Matthew Britton hasn't managed a run on the last two Saturdays - he sat out Greetland's game 13 days ago and got a duck against Bradshaw last week - but the Division One batting award was already in the bag after scores of 215 not out, 182 and 204 in the space of four matches in June.
Steve Shannon, a key figure in Bradshaw's drive to regain Premier Division status at the first attempt, is the top bowler with 22 wickets over the last two months.
Luddenden Foot's luckless Jon Midgley has been left without a game for the last two weeks having made three centuries in his previous four innings. That inactivity allowed Old Town's Dan Bailey to come through to take the Division Two batting honours with 68 against Denholme Clough last week.
Shelf's ex-Brighouse bowler David Maloney is the top bowler in the section, aided by his eight wickets against title-gunning Clayton recently.
Only league matches count towards the awards, which are for first teamers only. The August/September competition gets under way tomorrow and there are also awards for the top runmakers and wicket-takers over the whole season, thanks to the generosity of sponsor David Armitage.
