GARETH Walker and Kevin O'Rourke were the heroes as Stones won a tense first versus third contest at Outlane.
The leaders looked on the rack at 90 for six chasing a rain-reduced target of 174 at Outlane's lofty perch near the M62 but the late order pair helped them through to a two-wicket triumph.
Walker saw it out with 43 not out after adding 62 with O'R
ourke for the seventh wicket.
Earlier, Chris Whipp had taken six wickets for Stones, the hosts recovering from 75 for six to 192 all out thanks to 76 not out from Gavin Roberts, who hit 13 fours and two sixes.
Paul Ascough hit a century off just 66 balls to help second-placed Clayton recover from a distinctly unpromising position at Shelf, where they eventually recorded a 118-run success.
Shelf's ex-Brighouse player David Maloney took all eight wickets to fall as Clayton recovered from 74 for six to reach 264.
Ascough (113 no) figured in stands of 82 with Matthew Connell (68) and 107 with Gurdiv Singh (45) and wilting Shelf were then dismissed for 146.
A 144-run opening stand between Steven Butterworth (100) and Paul Thwaites (75) put fourth-placed Old Town on the road to victory at home to Luddenden Foot.
Town totalled an impressive 314 and looked set for an early finish when Foot were 34 for four but Jon Midgley followed up a century against Stones recently with 101 to help Foot to 233.
Denholme Clough, the team which had forgotten how to win before this season, bagged their third success of the campaign when they just managed to resist a fightback from hosts Stainland.
Half-centuries from James Holland and David Downey helped Clough to 209 and Stainland, after being 50 for five, eventually ran out of overs two short of the visitors' total after Brett Spencer had made 61 and Darren Hickey 40.
Bottom club Augustinians capitulated by nine wickets away to Wibsey Park Chapel, where home skipper Richard Winn (four for 36) and Paul Girardi (three for 14) helped dismiss the 10-man visitors for 69.
