JAMIE Summerscales and Andy Gardner, two players who are no strangers to success, are setting the pace in the first Courier Sport/Briggs Priestley Engravers Awards competition of the season.
Summerscales, a former league batting averages winner, has hit the ground running on his return to SBCI with 233 runs in three innings - 104 against Mytholmroyd, 67 against Sowerby and 62 against Triangle.

Gardner, who has topped the league bowling averages twice, has led his Northowram Hedge Top side from the front with 14 wickets in the Premier Division, his seven for 19 at Bradshaw last week paving the way for a second win.

The first competition is for league matches in April and May and there are also trophies for the top performers at first team level in divisions one and two.

Oxenhope's Darren Hopkinson is the leading batsman so far in the middle section while Luddenden Foot's Zimbabwean capture Ian Nicolson heads the bowling rankings.

Players still have four more chances to swell their totals this month but the Division Two batting prize already looks destined for Greetland's Matthew Brittain after his 200 not out against Stainland on the opening day.
