TOWN must build on their win over Wakefield when they face Radcliffe Borough at the Shay on Saturday.
That's the view of player assistant manager Nigel Jemson whose second half double helped them to a 3-2 win last weekend.

Halifax needed to bounce back from their dismal defeat at Harrogate two days earlier when they faced a third successive Yorkshire derby.

They did so, but now must record back to back wins for the first time since November when they entertain a Borough side they thrashed 4-1 at Stainton Park a little under three weeks ago.

"Saturday's result is only good if we get something against Radcliffe," said Jemson. "There is no point dropping points. We have to be consistent.

"We are top of the league and although we have played a few more games than other sides, all we can do is win our games.

"The form hasn't been good considering we are top.

"We questioned the players' passion and commitment and we got a response off them on Saturday.

"But we shouldn't be having to ask those questions and they have to learn by that."

Jemson took his tally for the season to seven against Wakefield, but was happier with the three points than the two goals.

"It is always nice to score goals but the most important thing is for the team to do well," he said.

"After quite a bad performance at Harrogate it was important we got back to winning ways and fortunately we got the three points."

Town struggled at times to break Wakefield down despite the fact they were reduced to 10 men just before the half hour when keeper Andy Woods was sent off.

"Patience was the key," said Jemson. "We could not afford to go down to a level where we were panicking and trying to force things.

"We were looking to get the ball wide, put plenty of crosses in and try to attack them.

"The goal was always going to come and once we got one I didn't think we would ever lose the game.

"But we made it hard for ourselves at the end by giving a couple of goals away.

"We said at half time that although we'd had a lot of pressure we hadn't really tested the stand in keeper. It was important we had shots on target and make him earn his corn as a keeper.

"It was good to get an early goal and settle the nerves for the team and the supporters because obviously they were getting a bit anxious. They see a game against 10 men having lost its keeper as easy, but it doesn't always turn out like that."

It was a rare start in attack for Jemson who has operated mainly as a sweeper when he has been called on this season.

And manager Jim Vince has revealed that the former Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday striker could yet find himself in goal in an emergency following the imminent departure of Phil Senior

"He has done it for Nottingham, Forest and we have planned for that," said Vince.

JON Shaw, last season's 20-goal top scorer at the Shay, has joined Crawley on loan from Rochdale until the end of the season.
