HAVING got their play-off push back on track in midweek at Clitheroe, Town can take another giant stride towards a top five finish at home to Lancaster City.
Shay clash is not just about Halifax picking up points, but denying Lancaster the chance to close the gap on them.
The Lancastrians are currently sixth in the Unibond One North table, six points behind Town with two games in hand.
Should the Shaymen win it would almost be worth four points given that their goal difference is far superior to City's.
There are others who are stalking Halifax for a top five place, notably Ossett Albion and Curzon Ashton who Town still have to play and who both still have hopes.
So to push one of their rivals to arm's length going into the final month would be a great boost.
It will not be easy for Jim Vince's side against a Lancaster team that has won four and drawn two of its last eight away games.
But the Shaymen are starting to get numbers back with the manager having to decide who to leave out of his squad rather than who he can fill the bench with.
They showed at Clitheroe on Tuesday night that they have the fight to succeed, the key will be to display the same kind of form for the remaining matches.
And while the aim in the last month will be to ensure they are in the top five, they must also remember that the position they finish in will have a major bearing on the course of the play offs.
As things stand, Town look likely to have to play a couple of away games if they are to achieve their promotion goal.
But things can change quickly and by winning they put themselves in a position to capitalise should any of the teams immediately above them slip.
And that is not as forlorn a hope as it may sound given that Newcastle lost at Chorley in midweek while Skelmersdale were held at Radcliffe Borough.
As Vince has said so many times this season, Town have to concentrate on what they do on matchday and let the rest take care of themselves.
