SEVEN days ago all the talk around the Shay was of an Easter weekend double and a push for the Unibond One North play offs.
A draw at Ossett Albion, albeit in controversial circumstances, and a disappointing defeat at home to Curzon Ashton have left those dreams in tatters.
And while there is still the mathematical possibility that the Shaymen can finish in the top five, few really believe it will happen.
Indeed, Town could beat Trafford at the Shay tomorrow and still see their chances of finishing above the dotted line dashed if Curzon beat Garforth Town - which they should - at the Tameside Stadium.
It is, quite simply, a hopeless position.
That should not, however, prevent the Shaymen from doing everything they can to win their final home game of the campaign.
They ought to be able to do that given that Trafford have the worst record of any team over the last eight league games.
They have picked up just seven points from the last 24 on offer - two fewer than Town over the same period - and have lost five times.
The alarms bells might start to ring if you isolate the Manchester side's away form.
They are sixth in that table with 11 points from three wins and a couple of draws in the last eight games.
Town's home form of late has hardly been that startling.
They have won just three of their last eight at the Shay - against Wakefield, Garforth and Harrogate - and have struggled since the start of the year.
Trafford have enjoyed some notable success on the road this season, including a 1-0 win at high flying Colwyn Bay.
They also won 3-1 at Newcastle Blue Star and drew at Curzon Ashton so the Shaymen will take them lightly at their peril.
Previous trips across the Pennines have seen them win at Garforth Town and Harrogate Railway.
Town gained their first ever win in Unibond One North when they won 2-1 at Trafford back in August with goals from Steve Payne and Nigel Jemson.
Can the duo, who are now in caretaker charge of the Shaymen, steer the side to what would be a morale boosting win in the final Shay outing before the summer break?
