HALIFAX opened their season with a win, easily outpointing Dewsbury in a one-sided Northern Rail Cup game at the Shay.
Matt Calland's side ran out 24-0 winners, a score that would have looked more impressive if kicker Lee Paterson had not missed his first three conversion attempts.
The home side led 8-0 at the break, after an opening half dominated by the whistle o
f Warrington official Matthew Thomason, who blew for 15 penalties during a stop-start opening.
Fax looked dangerous throughout, but struggled to come up with an end product until substitute Dylan Nash popped a slick pass out to James Haley, who scored in the right corner.
And it was Nash who gave Fax breathing space at the break, racing clear from halfway in the final minute of the half before limping off, apparently with a recurrence of the back injury that has troubled him since the pre season game at St Helens.
It was far more comfortable after the interval, with Haley scoring after 48 minutes leaving Fax leading 12-0.
Paterson and Shad Royston then romped over in quick succession, with Paterson finally finding his kicking boots, to seal a good day's work.
Halifax: Shad Royston; Paul White, Lee Paterson, James Haley, Rob Worrincy; Luke Branighan, Stanley Gene; Neil Cherryholme, Mark Gleeson, David Wrench, Stephen Bannister, Jon Goddard, Bob Beswick. Subs: Sean Penkywicz, Said Tamghart, Frank Watene, Dylan Nash
Dewsbury: James Haynes; Bryn Powell, Chris Spurr, Scott Turner, Stewart Sanderson; Pat Walker, Dominic Brambani; Keegan Hirst, Mike Emmett, Anthony England, Rob Spicer, Andy Bostock, Adam Hayes. Subs: Rob Lunt, Adam Robinson, Luke Stenchion, Scott Watson

Good start to the season..good game bit rusty in places, but give a few more games and will be there!...who knew Stanley Gene still had it in him to run nearly whole length of the pitch!! Amazing player already showing authority on and off the field..great asset to our team! Well done Fax!!

Not only nearly do a full length of the pitch, but played a full 80 minutes as well. He looks a class above everyone else and I feel really excited about the whole season. I too thought we were a bit rusty in places. But it was the first game of the season. When the weather gets better, the grounds get firmer, we get the couple of injured into their places..... wow.

This could have been a banana skin given the number of games that Dewsbury have won over the last year. 24-0 will do me. We'll do some serious damage this year. and look at the Batley result.

Welcome back to Hellfire. Have you worked out where the Shay is yet ??

2* Agree, his fitness levels where amazing and yes when the pitch is in a better condition and we have had a bit more game time then going to be a tough team to beat at home!

@3 What a sad act you are.
If you are not a fan of the rugby then you are not a fan, but why make silly childish comments and then start crying when people have a go at you.

I no longer live in Halifax, but the next time I'm up I will try and see them. Things look promising and hopefully it will be a successful season.

What a good day, a few beers, a bag of chips, good company and a superb game.
    Well done the lads.
Great break by Stan the Man, as my mate the wag said, "40 years ago and he'd have run the whole length"
Keep it up, see you all in London on Sunday.

It's good how we can read match reports from Halifax Vandals, Siddal, football games involving Hartlepool and Carlisle, and even action from a Unibond North fixture, yet we can't see a full report or reaction from the town's most supported professional sports team!
