Fax will fire in big games

THE pressure is on at the top of National League One - and Halifax centre Mike Ratu reckons Matt Calland's title chasers are ready to step up to the mark.
The on loan Leeds Rhino returned to Fax's top side in the 26-26 draw with Widnes last weekend following the injury to star back Jon Goddard and is likely to keep his place for Sunday's long haul to Whitehaven.
The clash at the Recreation Ground is the first of two games in four days - the second is against leaders Salford at the Shay a week today - which could decide the fate of Fax's title challenge.
And Ratu believes the situation will bring the best out Calland's entertainers.
"As a professional sportsman, that's why you play the game, to play in the big matches," said Ratu, who grabbed Fax's first try against the Vikings.
"To be honest, I think this team will enjoy the pressure.
"It's going to be tough at Whitehaven but we are all looking forward to it.
"We've got five hard weeks now to try and get some steel and get some form as we go into the play offs.
"It's a good mentality to have at this time of year and we're better off playing the better sides.
"Last weekend was a bit mixed, with some good aspects and some probably less good, but we can certainly take plenty of positives from it.
"It was a good contest and the score probably showed what the game was about."
Ratu is also hoping the end of season run in will bring an upturn in his personal fortunes after a year punctuated by illness and injury.
"I feel like I am getting into it now, getting some form and continuity," said Ratu.
"I have had a stop start year, injuring my knee and then getting a virus that kept me out of the team for a few weeks.
"I feel like I've had some bad luck, but I'm hoping I can keep my place in the team now for the end of season run in.
"I've been given an opportunity to perform, but I feel for Jon Goddard.
"He's come from a Super League team and he's been head and shoulders above anyone else in the backline."
