Halifax Athletic produced a battling performance to secure their passage to the second round at the expense of Crossleys.
The visitors took the lead early in the first half when poor marking from a long throw led to an easy close range header, but Halifax equalised when a Chris Heaton corner was knocked over the line by Fraser Hallam and they took the lead when centre back Leigh King's speculative effort from the edge of the area sneaked under the keeper.

Despite the heat both teams were working hard and Crossleys found an equaliser from a precise header at the back post to send the game into extra time.

Halifax then took the lead again when a good run by man of the match Richard Pearson saw him win a penalty after being taken down in the area and Daniel Yeomans duly slotted home the resulting spot kick.

The home side increased their lead when another great run by Pearson saw him take on the Crossleys defence and fire home what turned out to be the winner.

Crossleys rallied late on and pulled one back but Halifax held on.

Sowerby Bridge Reserves fought back from two down against higher division Halifax Irish Reserves to win a thrilling game on penalties.

A brace from the veteran Martin Hardcastle and a superb header from captain Chris Doyle put a spirited Bridge 3-2 up but Irish levelled with a well taken free kick and after extra time, the sides could not be separated and it went to penalties.

Two saves from 17-year-old Bridge keeper Danny Yates gave them the advantage and young Nathan Cleary calmly slotted home the winning spot kick.
