DESPITE missing out on promotion by a whisker, Brighouse Old Boys can still be well pleased at their debut season in the West Yorkshire League.
And they ended the campaign with a flourish as they triumphed in their final two games.

After going two down after five minutes against Baildon Trinity last Wednesday, they fought back to level with goals from Richard Rothwell and Luke Johnson only to let in a third before half time.

But a strong second half performance saw them recover with goals from Rothwell and Lee Malcher earning them a 4-3 win.

Keeper Gareth Betts and a back four of Marko O'Boyle, Mathie Lumb, Lee Williams and Paul Green ensured Boston Spartans had few clear chances on Saturday.

As half time approached, Brighouse began to dominate the midfield with Vaughan Wagstaffe and Michael Wadsworth outstanding, and they deservedly took the lead when Green's through ball found Bedford who rounded the keeper and netted to give the home side a half time lead.

Brighouse started the second half as they finished the first and doubled the lead when Williams's free kick was superbly headed home by Bedford, who then completed his hat trick when he forced home Malcher's cross from close range.

The fourth came when Kenny's corner was headed back across goal by Wagstaffe and Bedford was on hand to head the ball home.

A late consolation by the visitors did not take the shine off a fine victory which ended a fine campaign that will see the Old Boys finish no lower than fourth.
