BRIGHOUSE Old Boys' disappointing home form continued with a 3-0 defeat by high flying Boston Spartans.
And once again it was a combination of indecisive defending and lack of cutting edge that saw them slump to their third home reverse.
The home side made changes with Vaughan Wagstaffe dropping back to join Michael Wadsworth as a twin centre back a
nd striker Martin Newham was brought in from the reserves to partner Adam Bedford up front.
The game started evenly with Reece Bray and Michael Barlow working hard in midfield and Newham and Bedford causing problems with their movement up front but no clear chances were created.
It was the visitors who made the breakthrough when 25 minutes after weak defending allowed the Boston centre forward to break away and slip the ball past Gareth Betts.
The home side hit back with Newham and Neil Butcher both having shots blocked by some last ditch defending, but again poor tackling at the back allowed the visitors to break free and double the lead before half time.
The home side began the second half strongly with wingers Rob Kenny and Butcher causing problems but once again a mixture of excellent defending and wayward finishing prevented the Old Boys getting back into the game and their task was made more difficult on the hour when Boston scored a third assisted by slack defending from a corner.
Brighouse introduced subs Matthew Lumb and Lee Williams and went to three at the back and began to dominate, but as in previous games they were unable to turn the pressure into goals as Spartans ran out deserved winners despite good displays by Newham, Johnson and Bray.
A robust performance from Brighouse Old Boy Reserves at Woodhouse Hill WMC saw them record a well deserved 4-0 win against a spirited home side.
Richard Rothwell opened the scoring and the lead was doubled two minutes before the break when great work by Edwin Prior set up Andy Burton.
Shortly after the break, it was three as the tricky Steven Tuite bamboozled the Woodhouse defence before finishing with some aplomb, and Marko O'Boyle's late header completed the scoring.
