MONTHS of hard work by club officials finally get their reward tomorrow when Brighouse Town play their first ever competitive game in the senior non-league pyramid.
The St Giles Road men travel to Teversal for their opening Northern Counties League Division One fixture, and boss Mark Brier and his assistant Darren Attwood could not be happier with the way preparations have gone.
"There has been a lot of work by a lot of people and while there is a lot of nervous anticipation among everyone at the moment, we are really looking forward to getting started and relishing the challenges ahead," said Brier.
And Brier has delivered a huge boost to his squad on the eve of hostilities with the news that he has snapped up prolific Luddenden Foot striker John Booth, with the 21-year-old going straight into the squad for the trip to Teversal.
"He was on trial for us against Farsley on Tuesday and he was superb and played himself into a deal with us," said the Brighouse boss.
"He is a proven goal scorer, he has lots of attributes including skill, workrate, energy and enthusiasm, and I'm very pleased to get him on board."
Brier said that despite that final pre season clash against Farsley ending in a 4-0 defeat, he was delighted with the exercise.
"Farsley brought pretty much a full strength first team side down and the managerial team of John Deacey and Neil Parsley were both on the touchline, so it was a great test for us and a tribute to how far we've come.
"We matched them for long periods and we certainly weren't disgraced, and though it might seem strange to say after losing 4-0, I was absolutely delighted with the evening."
Brier said the squad was now raring to go, and the only cloud on the horizon is the absence of skipper and defensive stalwart Paul Moore and also Tony Nicholson at Teversal due to pre booked holidays, but an otherwise full strength side travels to Nottinghamshire.
A coach will take the players, officials and supporters down to Nottinghamshire for the game, and it will leave the Old Pond Inn at 11.30am, with spare seats allocated on a first come first served basis.
Brighouse are also looking for a new first team physio as Bryan Brooks who previously held the post has had to relinquish his duties for personal reasons.
Anyone interested in filling the position, possibly a trainee who will benefit from the experience, is asked to contact Malcolm Taylor on 07884 182970.
