LAST season's Division One champions Greetland are sitting proudly at the top of the Premier Division after crushing previous leaders Stainland United 5-1 at Goldfields on Saturday.
A great first half showing did the trick, Greetland surging into a 4-0 interval lead with a goal from Scott Barton followed by a hat-trick from man of the match David Woffenden.
Woffenden crossed for Barton to volley the opener after 20 minutes and
then followed up with two goals in two minutes, the first a superb solo effort and the second an excellently placed shot from 25 yards with Stainland keeper Darren Robinson stranded.
Woffenden slotted his third following a fine defence splitting pass from Craig Taylor, making his first start of the season.
Stainland were rocked by Greetland's attacking play but rallied well as Ryan Coupe began to gain a foot hold on the game.
Andrew Moss also shone for the away side but Greetland made it five when Barton put in a good ball from the left which Adam Oldfield controlled well before laying off for top scorer Mark Hindle to smash home.
Chris Green grabbed a consolation goal for Stainland with 15 minutes remaining thanks to a thunderous drive from 30 yards which went in off the post.
Stainland's frustrating day was summed up when Karl Jowett dragged a shot wide while at the other end substitute Carlton Balmer made a superb jinking run but failed to hit the target.
In a much-reduced programme due to the county competitions, Sowerby United won 3-2 away to Warley Rangers in the only other top section game to earn their first win of the season.
They fielded a fourth different keeper in five matches when Ashley Rayner withdrew through injury in the morning and Martin Schofield was drafted in.
Burston hit a post and the speedy Patchett shot wide for Warley before Sowerby took the lead on the half hour when skipper John Wilkinson spotted Ian Carradice off his line and coolly lobbed him from 20 yards.
This lifted Sowerby who made it two early in the second half when Luke Maguire's corner was only half cleared and Rajko Jovanovic drilled home from the edge of the box.
Warley pressed and despite the efforts of Tim Backhouse and Hugh Hitchen, they did get themselves back in the game when James Crossland collected a half clearance to fire home.
Sowerby hit back immediately when the outstanding Matthew Beevers split the home defence to send Wilkinson racing into the box. A rash tackle brought Sowerby a penalty which Wilkinson dispatched.
But John Burston's 30 yard free kick made it 3-2 and set up a nervy last five minutes.
The clash between unbeaten pair Holmfield and Calder '76 in Division One was abandoned with nine minutes remaining when a home player suffered a suspected broken leg.
The game looks likely to have to be replayed which is tough luck on Calder who were 3-1 up against the leaders.
Salem made it third time lucky after defeats in their first two games when they crushed Brighouse OB 7-2 away.
After a scrappy opening, Lee Wharton's fine solo run and finish put the visitors ahead. Kenny doubled the lead but James Watson broke clear to halve the deficit before half time.
Kenny made it 3-1 in a goalmouth scramble, Richard Boyle headed Salem's fourth and Liam Huson made it 5-1 before Watson got his second. Wharton made the most of good work from Nick Green and then Huson to add two more to complete a hat-trick.
Sowerby Bridge's long-serving striker Steve Jagger was another three-goal man as his side made it three wins out of three in Division Two since relegation.
Bridge thumped visitors Warley Rangers Reserves 6-0 but remain three points behind Halifax Irish Centre Reserves who are the only team in the league with four wins, their latest success coming with a 3-2 win at Kingston.
New side Luddenden Foot Reserves dropped their first points when held 3-3 at home by Midgley United Reserves in Division Three.
Sowerby Bridge Reserves and Halifax Athletic both made it two wins out of three with handsome away wins, Bridge winning 4-0 at derby rivals Sowerby United Reserves and Athletic winning 4-1 at Salem Reserves.
Salem started brightly and spurned a few chances before Halifax took the lead when Chris Heaton curled in a left footed corner off the back post.
Halifax gained the momentum and Ross Hallam finished off a good move via a post.
They kept up the pressure in the second half and a brace from man of the match Kris Whitworth on his debut took them clear. The goals came either side of a sending off for Salem after a handball on the line, with Chris Illingworth's penalty saved.
Salem scored a late consolation from a corner.
