BRIGHOUSE Town suffered their fourth successive first division defeat as they went down to fellow newcomers Grimsby Borough at St Giles Road.
But the game will be remembered for a lengthy stoppage early on after Jordan Maltas had taken a blow to the head while challenging for a ball.

Play was halted for 25 minutes until an ambulance arrived and Maltas spent the night in hospital, althou
gh he has now been given the all clear.

Ben Allen gave the visitors a 24th minute lead when he nipped in between a couple of Town defenders to meet a cross.

Scott Swan went closest to levelling before the break but it was not until the second half that Brighouse hit back when Wayne Crossley fired home from the penalty spot after David Bentley's 51st-minute goalbound shot had been handled in the area.

The defender was shown a red card for preventing a goal but Grimsby refused to put all their players behind the ball and hold on for a point.

Ryan Brook and Danny Ryan delivered good crosses from either flank without anyone getting a touch inside the area.

And it was Borough who claimed all three points when the ball broke kindly for Darren Hanslip with 12 minutes remaining and he fired home.

"It was a game either side could have won," said Town boss Mark Brier. "We didn't play too badly, I don't think, but Grimsby deserved to get their goals.

"We played well and had decent periods of possession especially in the second half but did not make it count."

Mr Brier, of cause you played well and had decent periods of possession, they only had 10 men for nearly all the game.!!
