West Riding County FA Sunday Cup

A SENSATIONAL solo effort from Steve Senior helped Hollins Holme book their place in the third round.
The talented winger beat four men before curling the ball past the keeper in the dying minutes to secure a 4-3 victory for the Halifax League Premier Division outfit over visitors Bay Horse East Ardsley.

Hollins, though, really should have had the match wrapped up long before after dominating the first half against their rivals from the Heavy Woollen Sunday Alliance and racking up a two goal lead, only to let their opponents back into the match after the interval.

Tom Booth had put Hollins in front when he broke free and curled the ball past the Bay keeper, while a superb passing move was finished off in style by Simon Newbitt's volley.

However, Hollins took their foot off the gas in the second half and after a scrambled effort from a corner saw Bay pull one back and give them hope, the home defence were caught napping as the equaliser was slotted home.

Hollins retook the lead through Newbitt's penalty after Booth was hacked down in the box, only for Bay Horse to level again, keeper Steve Butterworth spilling a corner with the loose ball poked home, but Hollins snatched victory when Senior danced through the Bay defence to score.

Elland cruised into the third round with a 6-0 thumping of fellow Premier Division side Halifax Phoenix.

Playing against the elements, in the first half the Elland defence stood firm thanks to some fierce tackling from Andy Gregory and Ryan Brook.

And they hit the front when Sam Frankland beat the offside trap and cooly slotted past Yasser in the Phoenix goal.

To the home sides' credit, they continued to press but Chris Maroney was equal to everything that was thrown at him.

And on the stroke of half time, the lead was doubled, Frankland picking up his second after good work from Hoyle and Davidson.

In the second half Elland dominated, Doherty and Gibbons in the centre of midfield pulling the strings and Wilkinson a constant threat down the left.

Frankland completed his hat trick from close range and Liam Smith's cross cum shot found the top right hand corner, then Danny Davidson made it 5-0 after Hoyle's shot was parried.

And in the dying minutes, Davidson got his second and Elland's sixth, knocking it home after Gibbons raced clear and unselfishly squared the ball.
