GYMNASTS from the Diamonds Club in Halifax have excelled at two Yorkshire Acrobatic and Tumbling competitions.
The Boothtown-based club were particularly impressive at the pre-grade championships at the South Leeds Stadium where five local competitors were crowned Yorkshire champions.

They were Annnabel Stott, Emma-Leigh Peel, Ryan Lawton, Harry Alderton and Jenna Leigh-Wilson.

The acrobatic gymnasts performed a floor routine to music which included a series of balances with their partner as well as acrobatic and tumbling moves.

All the Diamonds contingent produced superb results and were rewarded with medals.

Pride of place went to Alderton and Stott who clinched gold in the A Level mixed pairs. Lawton and Peel who did the same in the Level B category.

Jack Skinner and Neve Davison claimed silver in the Level B pairs while Abbie Williams and Hope Silver won bronze in their division.

The tumbling section competed in all four categories in their age groups and not only gained medals but were complimented on their outstanding skills by the judging panel.

Stott again finsished first in the 8yrs category with Lawton (boys' tumbling 9/10yrs), Peel (girls' 9/10yrs), Alderton (boys' 11/12) and Leigh-Wilson (13+) also picking up gold medals.

Other results: Boys' 8yrs - Dryis Jones (silver), girls' 9/10yrs - Ella Shawmarsh (5th), Isabelle Gibson (4th), Molly Pollard (2nd); girls' 11/12yrs - Megan Gibson (6th); boys' 9/10yrs - Jack Skinner (2nd); girls' 11/12yrs - Kennedy Wall (3rd).

It was a similar story at the championship event held at the Metrodome, Barnsley.

The level of the competition was extremely high but once again the Diamonds contingent emerged with great credit.

Alicia Haycock claimed gold in the women's 11/12yrs category - a feat also achieved by Lois Jordan (women's 13+), Aston Queeley (men's tumbling 11/12yrs) and Joseph Vessey (elite men's 10/12).

Other results: Women's 13+ - Kate Harper (3rd), Katie Fenton (2nd); Women's 11/12 - Darcey Sutcliffe (2nd); Elite 2 mens 15+ - Tom Uttley (2nd); National One Women's Pairs - Katie Fenton/Lois Jordan (14th); National Two Women's pairs - Annabel Kersley/Katie Harper (7th), Emma Warden/Alicia Haycock (6th); National Two Women's Groups - Nicola May/Hannah Woodworth/Kennedy Wall (3rd).

Sophie Crawford, Francesca Bland and Emily Paul also competed in the National Women's Groups section.
