HALIFAX front rower Neil Cherryholme says Matt Calland's side have "some demons to lay to rest" in tomorrow night's Championship showdown at Batley.
Fax were humiliated on their last visit to Mount Pleasant, losing 34-28 in the midst of the five-game losing streak that ultimately cost them a first placed finish in the league.
But the final scoreline tells only half the story, with the Bulldogs - who were scrapping against relegation at the time - storming to a 28-6 interval lead before Fax launched an ultimately futile second half comeback.
"They threw us off track really last year," said Cherryholme, who returned to the side for last weekend's 16-try Challenge Cup rout of amateur neighbours Ovenden.
"We came back at them in the second half that night, but not well enough and there are probably a few demons that need laying to rest tomorrow.
"It's on TV again, they'll be fired up, then there's the hill, so it's certainly going to be tough, there is no doubt about that.
"They have started well, but by their own admission they haven't played the top teams apart from Featherstone.
"I'd like to think we've got enough in the tank to cope with whatever they throw at us."
Whether or not Cherryholme will feature against Karl Harrison's side depends on which combination of front rowers Calland opts for, with the former Bradford Bull scrapping with David Wrench, Said Tamghart, Frank Watene, Makali Aizue and Dominic Maloney for a place in the 17.
"The competition is tough at the moment, especially with Makali and Dom back, because there are six of us vying for four spots," said Cherryholme.
"But Matt's said he will change it if people aren't playing well so you keep working hard in training because you know you will get a chance at some point.
"It was nice to get a run on Sunday.
"The first half was actually pretty quiet for us because the half backs were seeing holes on the edges and going for them, which meant me and Dom found the ball was going away from us quite a bit.
"It's tough, but it was good to get out there and get some fitness.
"It might not mean much for tomorrow, but hopefully Matt has seen enough that if someone makes a mistake or picks up an injury I can get back in there."
Meanwhile, Harrison is still wrestling with the unusual dilemma presented by his side's upcoming Challenge Cup tie against Siddal.
The Bulldogs' former Fax wingman Lee Greenwood, who will be on duty against his former club tomorrow night, also coaches the Chevinedge club.
"It's really difficult, I don't think it's happened before," said Harrison, who spent almost a decade in the front row at Thrum Hall and the Shay.
"We had a giggle over the phone after the draw was made but there are implications.
"I don't see how I can play him, to be honest, but I will sit down with the other coaching staff and Lee himself and talk about it.
"We'll do what's best for Batley and also for Lee, who is doing a great job at Siddal."
