BOSS Chris Wilder admitted he was baffled after watching what he described as a 'brainless' second half display from his side against Cambridge United.
Town looked on their way to building on the previous Tuesday's impressive display against York when they took a 15th-minute lead through Simon Heslop against the high-flying Us.

And they had chances to go further in front before a defensive mix-up handed the visitors an equaliser on the stroke of half time.
Then they simply abandoned their first half tactics as they slipped to a 2-1 defeat - only their second on home soil in the league this season.
"I am absolutely baffled," he said. "We told them in the first half to play the ball into the frontmen early and turn them and it worked a treat.
"We wanted midfielders to get in and they did.
"Their players who are a threat - Mark Beesley, Scott Rendell and Lee McEvilly - never had a kick.
"But because it was working too easy players, as players being as they are, wanted to change the script.
"We took an extra touch in midfield, play an extra pass and slow it all down when we needed to play it quicker.
"It was a brainless performance in the second half.
"It was nothing to do with commitment or playing for the club, we were not bright and clever enough to exploit the space."
The problems started when a mix-up between Adam Legzdins and Simon Ainge gifted Mark Beesley the chance to level the game in the final minute of the first half.
"We made a poor start to the game but after that we were excellent, creating chances against a good side that is up there.
"Cambridge spent £50,000 just before transfer deadline day on a couple of players so they are going for it.
"But we were well on top until a catalogue of errors gave them an equaliser.
"It was a ball that had to be booted out of the ground but wasn't.
"We should have been going in at half time gutted that we were only 1-0 up, not gutted because we were level.
"The game should have been done and dusted by half time.
"We had done more than enough to have been two or three up.
"These errors have happened time and time again and they have run right through the team.
"All our defenders have made errors this season from which the ball has ended up in the back of the net."
Cambridge went in front in the 57th minute when McEvilly tapped home a Dan Gleeson cross.
They were then reduced to 10 men when Mark Peters was shown a red card after scything down Craig Nelthorpe as he raced towards the edge of the United area.
But Town were unable to make their numerical advantage count.
"Cambridge needed a win and they were always going to put us under pressure at some point," said Wilder.
"But we could not ride the storm for the 10 minutes pressure they had.
"They had a decent passing movement, one cross and the ball is in the back of the net.
"Have we done that on them? I think we have - and more - but the ball does not end up in the net.
"If there was going to be a sending off at that time we should already have been leading, or at the very worst level.
"We never got the ball wide enough and our passing was not as good as the first half.
"We put balls in the box at times but no one got on the end of them.
"Our quality in the second half was not good enough, we turned the ball over far too cheaply and that is a massive frustration.
"Cambridge put one ball in our box in the second half and the ball ends up in the back of the net.
"We put three or four great balls in second half but we were not good enough to finish them.
"We have lost 11 games and I would say there is one that stands out in which we were well and truly beaten.
"We have drawn 11 games and in those we have had big chances to turn the draws into a win.
"Let's get the takeover done and see if I can attract a few players to the club."
