SEVEN days after their wonderful second half fightback at Stevenage, Town were unable to raise their game sufficiently to back it up with a win over Salisbury at the Shay.
And while they remain unbeaten on home soil in the league, a sixth home draw in 10 games represents points dropped rather than ones gained.
See the slide show from the game.On the balance of chances, the Shaymen could have won by a distance.
But their play lacked fluidity for lengthy periods and they were also denied on more than one occasion by City keeper Ryan Clarke who did well to save from Simon Heslop, who looked at home in the centre of midfield, and Steve Torpey.
Despite that, the team showed they have the character to recover from a setback as they did after going behind to a 56th-minute Wayne Turk header that put the visitors ahead.
Cortez Belle headed the equaliser with 15 minutes remaining and it was all Town after that, but despite throwing everything at the visitors there was no second goal.
The first half was a largely forgettable affair although there were still chances for the Shaymen to take control.
The first came after just seven minutes when Lewis Killeen flicked on an Adam Quinn ball and Jon Shaw went clear on goal.
But Town's 10-goal leading scorer was unable to convert, sending the ball past the post from the edge of the area as the keeper advanced towards him.
Ten minutes later Torpey's left wing cross was cleared as far as Heslop who struck the ball on the volley, but Clarke scrambled to his left and managed to push the ball away at full stretch.
Salisbury's best effort came from Andrew Sandell who skipped in from the left and forced Adam Legzdins into a save at his near post.
Torpey, who again combined well with skipper for the day Matt Doughty down the left, and Heslop were both off target with further chances before the break as Town looked to re-impose their authority.
Half-time substitute Daryl Taylor's pace clearly troubled the Salisbury defence and from a corner he won in the 51st minute Killeen saw a well struck effort deflect wide.
Moments later it was the speed of the frontman that created a chance as he outpaced the visitors' defence.
That enabled Torpey to cross but when the ball eventually found Heslop he fired wide.
The renewed optimism that Town were about to get the breakthrough evaporated in the 56th minute when Salisbury struck, Turk glancing home Liam Feeney's left wing cross after the Shaymen had failed to clear the initial danger.
And Legzdins did well minutes later to save from Sandell to prevent a second goal after a mix up in the Town defence had let the City striker through.
Having survived that scare Town turned the screw, pushing the Salisbury defence back and forcing a series of free kicks and corners.
Greg Young had an effort blocked from one of Torpey's deliveries before they levelled with 15 minutes remaining.
Torpey's initial corner was cleared back to him and when he crossed again, Belle was there to head home.
Cue a siege of the Salisbury goal, even if Halifax only managed to create a couple of clear cut chances.
They thought they had taken the lead within two minutes of equalising when Torpey sent in a shot from the edge of the area, but Clarke pushed the ball round the post.
And with just six minutes remaining the Salisbury stopper made the save that finally earned his side a share of the spoils.
Heslop started the move with another great pass from the middle that picked out Taylor on the right. He crossed for Shaw whose header was cleared as far as Heslop.
The on-loan midfielder could not have struck his 15-yard shot any better and the fans in the Skircoat and South Stand were about to celebrate when the ball stuck under the keeper's body.
There were other opportunities late on, but Torpey was unable to hit the target with a shot and Heslop's free kick from the right skimmed off the top of Young's head and over.
Star ShaymanSteve Torpey was a real threat down the left for the Shaymen.
And his set piece delivery caused the visitors' defence problems all afternoon.
It was his cross that led to Cortez belle heading home the equaliser and bit for a super save from Ryan Clarke in the Salisbury goal the winger might have bagged a winner a couple of minutes later.
Simon Heslop was like perpetual motion, never stopping for breath as he tried to get Town moving.
A first half volley was turned round the post and a late shot somehow managed to stuck under Clarke's body.
When Salisbury had moments of pressure, Adam Legzdins was always there to calm Town's defensive nerves.
His handling was assured against a team whose major threats were the long throw or the corner, all aimed at some enormous strikers and defenders.
Torpey takes the three points on offer in our season-long competition with Heslop two and Legzdins one.

You SayGreat entertainment, shame about the attendance. Come on people of Halifax, get down the Shay -15 quid's a bargain. The Shaymen are going places - The taxman
Injuries and suspensions yes. But the fact is we are simply not good enough. Belle to start before Quinn every time. What you did today Wilder was utterly childish, turning your back on Belle after he scored the equaliser. Grow up! Loyal Shayman
Good comeback but two more home points dropped against a poor team - Angry Andy
The next signing needs to be a good physio who can keep the players fit and get some of the injured ones back quicker than at present - Tom
