HALIFAX can move to the top of National League One tomorrow afternoon.
Even a modest victory against Dewsbury would give Matt Calland's side the points difference they need to overhaul big spending favourites Salford at the head of affairs.
If that does happen, it would be the first time in a long time that a Halifax side have topped a league ladder at anything approaching a significant stage of the season.
In all honesty though, Fax probably expected nothing less from themselves when they saw the fixture list back in the dark days of winter.
Last season, Martin Hall's side endured an extremely difficult beginning to the 18-match league programme with a relatively soft 'back nine'.
This year, Calland enjoyed a moderate start to his coaching career with the flipside of a testing second half of the season.
Of the potential contenders, Fax have only faced Celtic and Leigh, taking four points from a possible six.
Now for the good news.
Firstly, victories on the board are always better than the promise of games you 'should' win.
Secondly, after a decidedly rocky March and April, when the performances dipped and the injuries started to bite but the wins somehow kept coming, Fax will hope to steepen their learning curve from here on.
And finally, Calland has spent the last four months operating without a specialist scrum half.
If that problem is solved, and Calland can keep his star men fit and in form, then Fax could prove difficult to dislodge.
