RHYS Morgan is backing his new-look squad to banish the blues of last season and make a real impact in National Three (North) starting against Preston Grasshoppers at Ovenden Park tomorrow, (3.0).
While remaining cautious, mainly out of habit following last season's miserable campaign, Morgan believes he has enough quality on board with a raft of quality signings joining an old guard keen to make amends for what can only be described as a humbling experience last time out.
And Morgan has been swift to acknowledge the role Heath's former Twickenham winning skipper Dave Harrison has played in pulling the players together.
"It's been a very hard pre-season, make no mistake,"said Morgan
"I have been lucky in having Dave Harrison come on board because he has tremendous experience, both as a player and a coach.
"That has helped things really come together and given us an extra dimension going into a new season.
"If, back in February, somebody had offered me the squad I have now I would have bitten their hand off."
Morgan was also full of praise for the players who could have turned their back on the club following a dismal National Two season in which Halifax won just two league matches.
"Last season there were a few comments flying round that might have suggested they wouldn't be here this season," added Morgan.
"But they are here and they are determined to put right what went wrong and that is all I and the club can ask of them.
"We took a big knock in coming down and it will take time to build us back to where we want to be."
With the pre-season training over, Morgan is now keen to put his, and Harrison's, ideas into practice and is relishing tomorrow's opening game against a side with a renowned pedigree
"We need to get off to a good start, but we are under no illusions about the task that faces us," he said.
"We are up against a good team who are very well-organised. They got off to a good start last season but then fell away a little bit towards the end.
"It's not the end of the world if we don't start with a win.
