Larder set to miss out

EVERGREEN forward David Larder fears he has lost his battle to be fit for Fax's crunch play-off clash with Widnes at the Shay next Thursday.
Larder has been out of action since smashing his jaw in a collision with teammate Jon Goddard during last month's encounter with Leigh.
He had been hoping to make his long-awaited comeback in the televised match, but having taken advice from the specialist Larder believes he will be forced to continue watching from the sidelines for the time being.
As a result he is hoping his colleagues can secure the win over Widnes that would maintain their interest, by which time Larder fully expects to be fit and raring to go.
"I saw the specialist last week and from what he was saying it will be touch and go next week," said Larder.
"The injury is almost fully healed but, in all honesty, I believe it is a game too early.
"These are the games that you want to play in and to have to sit it out is massively frustrating."
"I'd certainly rather be out there, helping the lads and giving them encouragement."
Larder will be at the Shay offering support to a side he firmly believes have the talent and the firepower to go all the way and win the Grand Final.
"We started training back in November and our ultimate goal was to win the Grand Final," added Larder.
"We have put a lot of hard work in and we don't want the season to end prematurely.
"There is a massive incentive to do well and I know we have a squad capable of getting through and winning the final.
"We all know it will be a tough game because Widnes have been hitting some form.
"We are also due a little bit of luck as well. We have picked up injuries all season but all credit to the lads who have come in because they have done a superb job.
"We are fortunate in that we have a good squad. Other teams have large squads but they don't always have the quality and that is where I feel we have an advantage.
"As a squad and a team we know we can beat anybody. It will be a case of key individuals putting their hands up and delivering the goods.
"We have quite a few big game players and this is their opportunity to shine."
One area where Larder believes Fax could tighten up is in defence, adding: "That is something we have to look at. If we can get that sorted out then the rest will look after itself."
