WHICHEVER way you look at it, Town's recent results have simply not been good enough.
And yet, with four games remaining in their Unibond One North campaign, they are still in with a shout of reaching the play-offs.
It is no longer in their own hands with Curzon enjoying a one-point advantage and a game in hand.
But should the Shaymen win their last four games - including the visit of Curzon on Monday - they will give themselves a chance.
Of course, that is asking a lot of a side that has won just two of its last 10, but they can get what could prove to be an exciting show on the road by winning the West Yorkshire derby at Ossett tomorrow afternoon.
Much will depend on how the players react to the caretaker managership of Nigel Jemson, and what he does to change this round.
His options are limited with injuries having taken a heavy toll on the Town squad this season.
But so often a side under new management enjoys a revival and that must have been part of the thought process behind the decision to dismiss Jim Vince on Tuesday night.
The sides have already met a couple of times in competitive games this season although the pres-season clash was pretty competitive as it accounted for Neil Ross whose injury-ravaged campaign can be traced back to then.
Danny Davidson scored a couple with Danny Ellis and Jemson also on target in a 4-3 Presidents Cup clash at Dimple Wells back in September while Jemson was also on target as he salvaged a draw for Town in the league game between the sides at the Shay on new Year's Day.
Perhaps Ossett are the caretaker manager's lucky opposition.
Albion have enjoyed a relatively successful campaign and are just four points behind the Shaymen with a game in hand so they know they can still overtake them.
Their home form has been pretty decent as well with 12 wins in 18 outings including victories over Newcastle Blue Star and Colwyn Bay and draws with Skelmersdale and Curzon Ashton.
Durham, Clitheroe and Trafford are the only visiting sides to leave Dimple Wells with maximum points.
That means the Shaymen are going to have to pull out all the stops to pick up three vital points, but that was always going to be the case in this and the other remaining games.
