BARRY Isles, secretary of the Halifax, Huddersfield and District Alliance, is preparing to pull the plug on next Tuesday's only mixed event of the season at Outlane after just four teams entered.
The event involving sides of two men and two women was re-introduced into the calendar as something of an experiment this winter and Isles is very disappointed by the reaction of players.
He has set a deadline of tonight for entries and if he hasn't
10 teams he will then have to let Outlane know not to go ahead with preparations for the event.
"We have had a good response for the next men's meeting at Bradley Hall but very few entries for this one," he said.
Isles believes there is still a demand for mixed golf competitions and has tried to advertise this event.
"I have rung a few clubs to tell them about it but you can't force people to take part," he said.
Isles said two of the entrants for tomorrow's event had come from Marsden, one from Outlane and another was a Bradley Hall/Outlane combination.
He confirmed that if tomorrow's event had to be cancelled there would seem to be little point in pencilling in a mixed event for next winter's calendar.
Meanwhile, Alliance officials have published standings in the professionals' order or merit and champion club competition.
They make good reading for Bradley Hall thanks to the exploits of Rob Booth and Andy Hare.
The pair have hardly been out of the headlines in this winter's nine events so far with three wins and nothing worse than a sixth-place finish in the pro-am section.
Booth has accumulated 67 points and leads Woodsome Hall's Chris Hanson by 28 points with just the meetings at Bradley Hall on March 30, Willow Valley on April 13, West End on April 29 (Page Trophy) and Crow Nest Park (May 13) to come. The winners at each Alliance receive 10 points with the runners up getting nine and so on.
Bradley Hall have a handy lead in the champion club contest with 370 points to Outlane's 358 with Todmorden on 334 and Bradley Park one point further back.
The score of a club's highest placed pairing at each meeting counts.
