TOWN'S away day woes - and disappointing start to the new season - continued as they suffered their ninth defeat in their last 11 road trips.
And while their own performance was below par, the fact that Ebbsfleet looked little better made their latest setback all the more galling.
Halifax started with an unfamiliar formation, going into the game with three central defenders and five in midfield, as they looked to turn round their early season form.
But the result was all too familiar as they were undone by a Stacy Long goal four minutes after the break.
Disappointingly, they failed to force a save from home keeper Scott Tynan until the 75th minute when he leapt to deny Steve Bushell.
At the other end, Craig Mawson kept the Shaymen in it before the break with two fine saves against an Ebbsfleet side full of confidence following their win at Rushden seven days earlier.
Town opened promisingly with Matt Doughty and Darryn Stamp combining to send Rob Scott away down the right, but no one could get on the end of his cross.
And soon after they forced a couple of corners, from the second of which Tom Kearney had a shot blocked by Chukki Eribenne.
But from then on Halifax attacks were rare and it was Ebbsfleet who carved out a couple of chances.
Paul McCarthy's 19th-minute long ball enabled Luke Moore to race clear and he rounded the advancing Mawson only to send his shot into the side netting.
Five minutes later, following Cortez Belle's foul on Moore, George Purcell fired in a free kick that Mawson saved well to his right.
And another Belle indiscretion enabled Peter Hawkins to play the ball in for Long but his effort went wide off teammate Eribenne.
Belle made a great surging run 10 minutes before the break, taking him from halfway to the Ebbsfleet area. He picked out Doughty whose cross was sent wide at the far post by Stamp.
Ebbsfleet finished the half strongly after DeBolla had a 20-yarder from a short free kick blocked by Jake Wright.
And on the stroke of half time, from Ebbsfleet's first corner taken by Long, the ball was cleared to DeBolla whose shot looked to be screaming into the Town net through a crowd of players.
Mawson must have seen the ball late but he flung himself to his left and somehow managed to keep the shot out.
Having turned round level Town started the second half with a Tom Kearney free kick, awarded for a foul on Anthony Griffith, which was headed behind.
But they were caught napping in the 49th minute when Ebbsfleet broke down the right.
Halifax's defenders appealed for offside against DeBolla who raced to the byline before pulling the ball back and there was Long eight yards out to volley the ball beyond Mawson's reach.
It was a real sucker blow for the Shaymen who took a good 25 minutes to recover from it.
They had plenty of possession, but there was little end product and they did nothing in that spell to suggest they would be able to get back.
Then, around the 74-minute mark, they started to make a few inroads.
Danny Forrest picked out Steve Torpey, whose shot was blocked then a DeBolla foul on Forrest gave Town a free kick on the edge of the area.
Lewis Killeen and Kearney worked the ball to Steve Bushell whose curling effort was destined for the top corner only for Tynan in the Ebbsfleet goal to turn it away at full stretch.
The Shaymen forced a couple of corners and when Torpey crossed from the left Forrest nodded the ball back across the face of goal but Killeen was unable to connect at the far post.
As time ticked away, Scott sent a couple of long throws into the Ebbsfleet area, but the home side defended them comfortably.
And United might even have added to their lead in injury time when they broke clear as Town committed men forward, but Raphael Nade was denied by a last-ditch block from Scott
