JON Kennedy's return to the Shay was out of the blue - but the experienced keeper is delighted to be back.
Kennedy's first spell began after he arrived on the final day of the January 2006 transfer window.
And he made his debut in a goalless draw at the Shay against Kidderminster Harriers.
He went on to play 15 league games, helping the side to finish fourth in the Conference and book a place in the play-offs.
He also played in all three play-off games - two against Grays and the final against Hereford at Leicester City's Walkers Stadium.
"I have good memories of my time here," said the 27-year-old stopper whose second spell also began with a clean sheet against Durham on Monday. "And the club is still run properly now.
"Even though it is in Unibond One things are done like they were in the Conference.
"It is a big club and only at this level because of the financial side of things.
"It is a rebuilding process and really the level they are playing at does not matter to me.
"What does matter is getting the club back up the pyramid."
Kennedy moved on after the play off final, playing for Lancaster City before being signed by current Shay boss Jim Vince at Witton Albion.
In the summer he switched to Conference North Droylsden, but Vince clearly rates him as one of the best around and both jumped at the chance to reunite at Halifax once the opportunity arose.
"To be honest I never expected to come back to Halifax so it is quite a surprise to be here," said Kennedy.
"But having played for the manager before I was wondering it might happen.
"And it is good to be back."
Having watched last weekend's defeat at Lancaster from the bench, and played against Durham, Kennedy gave his assessment of the Town squad.
"Once the younger lads get a bit more confidence we will be able to kick on," he said.
"It is a new team that needs to gel and once they do we will be all right."
Kennedy became the third keeper to play for Town in four league games this season when he made his debut on Monday.
Craig Mawson started the season between the posts against Bamber Bridge with Phil Senior playing against Trafford and Lancaster City.
And Kennedy is looking forward to working with, and battling against, Senior.
"The club has two good keepers and you need that even at this level," he said.
