JON Shaw will become the fourth Halifax Town player to wear an England shirt if he gets the nod for tonight's Four Nations opener against Gibraltar at Colwyn Bay's Llanelian Road ground tonight (7.0).
And he is likely to be the last for a few years given that it now appears the best Town can hope for next season is Unibond League football.

There is still no word on exactly what the future holds, but while the consortium continues to pay the wages, Shaw remains a contracted Halifax player.

He has played for England before, against Italy at Cambridge United in February 2006, playing for 55 minutes before being substituted.

And England C boss Paul Fairclough has hinted at a big role for Shaw, who bagged 20 league goals for the Shaymen last season.

"Shaw is a great player and you should all look out for him on the pitch," said Fairclough at the weekend.

"He played great against Italy and he has really kicked on from there."

While Shaw is likely to be the last international - for the time being - Mark Bradshaw holds the honour of being the first. The left back played against Holland at Crawley in March 1998 and scored the winning goal.

Right back Steve Haslam was first to don the shirt following Town's return to the Conference, appearing in the 2005 Four Nations competition in the Republic of Ireland.

And Adam Quinn skippered the side during a successful campaign in Scotland in the summer of 2007 before flying to Finland for a game there.

England return to Colwyn Bay on Thursday to play Scotland before travelling to Belle Vue, Rhyl, on Saturday for their final game against the hosts Wales.

England C squad: Adam Bartlett (Blyth Spartans), Scott Tynan (Northwich Victoria), Daniel Gleeson (Cambridge United), John Brayford (Burton Albion), Michael Morrison (Cambridge United), Wayne Hatswell (Cambridge United), Kevin Nicholson (Torquay United), Dean Moxey (Exeter City), Ben Harding (Aldershot Town), Russell Penn (Kidderminster Harriers), Lewis Chalmers (Aldershot Town), Mitchell Cole (Stevenage Borough), John Martin (Stevenage Borough), Chris McPhee (Ebbsfleet Utd), Shaun Harrad (Burton Albion), Andy Burgess (Rushden & Diamonds), Jon Shaw (Halifax Town), Steve Morison (Stevenage Borough).

Jon Shaw should be in League 1.

At the very least.
