TOWN turned a thrilling game on its head in a seven minute spell early in the second half as they bagged only their second away win of the season.
Trailing 2-0 at the break to 10-man Stevenage, there looked no way back for a side that has struggled on the road for the last 18 months.

See the slide show from the game.

But they scored three times in seven minutes - and shrugged off the dismissal of skipper Tom Kearney - to complete a remarkable comeback.

Darryn Stamp set the ball rolling with his first goal of the campaign on his return to his former club, Simon Heslop smashed home an equaliser and Jon Shaw extended his run to 10 goals in 14 games with the winner.

Boro, under new boss Peter Taylor for the first time on home soil, were stunned, but the travelling fans, few of whom would even dared to have dreamed about a victory at the break, were in raptures.

The home side looked to be cruising towards a sixth home win of the season when they took a grip on proceedings in a 10-minute spell in the first half.

They went ahead when Craig Dobson's pace took him clear and he held off the challenge of Greg Young before lifting the ball into Adam Legzdins' goal after 14 minutes.

Red cards were almost inevitable after the referee had booked Rob Scott for what looked like a good tackle just eight minutes into the game.

And within 60 seconds of taking the lead, Boro were reduced to 10 men, John Martin seeing red following a challenge on Kearney inside the centre circle.

Town did not look like they would be able to capitalise as they failed to put Alan Julian in the home goal under any real pressure in the minutes that followed.

And Stevenage doubled their lead when Steve Morison got through, went past his England C teammate Adam Quinn and chipped over the advancing Legzdins.

Town wasted a series of corners and continued to toil until the final five minutes of the half when Heslop fired in a shot, Stamp was denied from close range by Julian and Kearney worked space for himself on the edge of the area only to curl a shot narrowly wide.

A quick start to the second half was required - and the Shaymen supplied it.

They pulled a goal back five minutes after the break when, following a foul on Heslop, Steve Torpey fired in a free kick that Julian was unable to hold.

Stamp reacted first and fired home the rebound.
Two minutes later they were level.

Heslop picked up possession 10 yards inside the Stevenage half and took it forward before unleashing an unstoppable shot from 35 yards that flew into Julian's top left hand corner.

Town suffered a blow in the 54th minute when Kearney became the six player in nine matches to be shown a red card following an innocuous looking clash with Stuart Lewis.

But Halifax shrugged off the loss of the skipper to go ahead in the 57th minute from another Torpey free kick.

Quinn got his head to the ball which rebounded back off the bar and Shaw was on hand to take his tally for the season into double figures.

Stevenage had a couple of chances to level around the hour mark, but Quinn did well to deny Dobson a shooting opportunity inside the area and Lewis sent a volley over the top.

But it was the Shaymen who had the better opportunities with Ryan Toulson's 25-yarder having Julian scrambling across goal and Lewis Killeen surging forward only to see his left foot curler go narrowly wide.

Nicky Gray, making his first appearance of the season from the bench, also tested Julian who did well to hold onto a shot at the near post.

There were a couple of late scares for the Shaymen as Stevenage threw everyone forward in a bid to salvage a point.

But Morison hammered a shot against the underside of the bar from no more than 10 yards and Mark Arber sent the rebound over the top.

And in injury time Morison engineered some space on the right side of the area but could not get his shot across the face of goal to curl enough.

Star Shayman
Simon Heslop was a major influence in Town's stunning second half fightback at Broadhall Way.
He was the player fouled for the free kick that led to their first goal.
And he enhanced his growing reputation with a stunning 35-yard strike to level things up.
After they had gone ahead he, along with the returning Nicky Gray, completely tied up the midfield to deny the home side a way back. Heslop takes three points.
Just like Heslop, Steve Torpey played a major part in two of Town's goals.
His free kicks led to the opener and Jon Shaw''s winner after Adam Quinn had glanced the ball onto the bar.
He also caught the eye later in the game for his scrambling defence, not something for which he is best known.
While Shaw took his tally for the season to 10, Darryn Stamp opened his account for the campaign on his return to his former club.
And few would deny that the big frontman deserved his goal - for his display on Saturday and in the previous handful of matches in which he has gone unrewarded.
Torpey takes two points and Stamp one.
