Super League licences: Unfinished Shay stand blamed for failure

THE Rugby Football League have, as expected, highlighted the Shay's unfinished East Stand as a major factor in their rejection of Halifax's Super League application.
Fax bosses had always feared the eight-year eyesore would kill their hopes of a top flight return.

And that opinion was confirmed in the RFL's official assessment, issued in the wake of today's licencing verdict:

"Halifax has previously made a good contribution to Super League but is significantly restrained by the incomplete nature of their stadium.

"This makes financial projections and marketing plans difficult to produce with any degree of certainty."

That prompted an appeal from Fax chief Graham Clay, who urged Calderdale Council to press ahead with their plans to finally finish the job.

"It is imperative for the future of the club that the stand is finished," said Clay.

"But for that, we could have been celebrating a Super League place today.

"It is absolutely vital that the situation is resolved as soon as possible."

Maybe we should have spent some of the Thrum Hall money on The Shay afterall? While it cleared debts and got us out of a hole at the time, long term by not using it to plan for the future it's meant the club cannot progress any further.

At least it's not been half built for 8 years! Not really a fair comparison.

Accepted, the council have once again let the people of halifax down badly. Saying that though, castleford and wakefield have both promised new stadiums to get themselves accepted so why wasnt the councuil so called commitment to complete given the same weighting as these empty promises.

This council is seriously failing it's community, by being useless, lazy, and indecisive.

They give the town nothing to be proud of, and the only chance of Halifax being on a map is through the sports teams....but they wont even pull their finger out to complete the stand, but decent sports facilities in place...

...the council have seriously let the rugby club down here, and I call for Owen "I talk a lot but get nothing done other than pick up my hefty wage" Williams to resign.

Why is it solely the council's fault though? We had the money to ensure that stand was finished & ensure our own long term future at the same time. Our club chose to spend it elsewhere. The council shouldn't even come into this, it's our own short sighted planning that's caused this.
It's exactly like someone who fritters away all their money while working, then when they struggle to make ends meet while on a pension they blame the government for not giving them enough.

The squatters only have themselves to blame. They thought they were on a 'freebie' coming down 't Shay. Now they pay the price for not doing their bit and paying a share of ground improvements.

Garbage ,cheap shot by the rfl, do they not have the balls to say the real reason ? Saints not got full planning permission yet, Cas and wakefield not much better, as for salford at least 2 years away,
can only hope things get sorted sooner rather than later for the ground, as for the players are we going to become a feeder team for super league now ?
