UNIBOND League chief executive Duncan Bayley has offered Town hope as they survey the wreckage of their failed appeal against expulsion from the Conference.
Mr Bayley has told Courier Sport that the league has already contacted the club to explain the timescale of a possible application to join.
And, while unwilling to reveal its contents, he described the tone of the communication as 'hopeful'.
The Unibond annual general meeting takes place on Saturday, but the body that will ultimately decide Town's fate is the FA Leagues Committee which will have to meet again.
The Unibond League currently has just 21 teams allocated to it, leaving one place to be filled, while the Unibond League Division One North has just 20 teams and is looking to expand.
