HALIFAX Town still technically exist this morning - but the end is not far away.
That was the honest assessment of administrator Rob Sadler after talks to get the club out of administration failed in Leeds yesterday.

But he has offered fans some hope of keeping professional football alive in Halifax in the form of a fans' run
club.

It has happened elsewhere, the best example being Aldershot Town who have returned to the Football League 16 years after they went bust.

"Halifax Town as a club still exists, but currently does not have a division in which to play," said.

"We have no tangible assets so there would be nothing to stop the supporters trust, for example approaching the Shay Stadium Trust and saying they would like to be the team that plays here.

"They are going to have to make an application to the FA and go through that whole process.

"But it is possible, as Scarborough have shown."

Town would need substantial backing to begin any higher than the Northern Counties League - even if the football authorities allowed it.

And Sadler added that the funds were unlikely to be provided by the David Bosomworth/ Bobby Ham consortium.

"I would be hugely surprised if they remained interested at this level," he said. "I think they feel thoroughly jaundiced by the whole process and it has cost them an awful lot of money."

Town's sole assets are the contracted players - the likes of Jon Shaw and Adam Quinn.

But Sadler does not envisage being able to get any money for them.

"We have the rights to the players' contracts, but there is a position where you have to ask yourself whether someone would want to pay for a player or just wait."

Look at Aldershot they are a blue print of how it can be done, they are back in the league, This could be the best thing to happen to halifax in the long run, they can build again, pheonix from the flames. But what annoyes me most is that there has been total apathy from certain sections of the Town, as in they thought that halifax would survive, it smacks of ignorance in my eyes, it is a crying shame.

so after an eternity the consortium are just going to walk away ? they may have put money into the club over the past 18 months, however I for one can't help feeling they never really wanted to be 100% involved or this would have been sorted out. And as for the past chairman to put a winding up order for £8000,( he must have known the consequences ) I hope all involved in the charade are pleased with themselves.
Although I did not get to watch the shaymen often, I feel for the manager and players who through no fault of their own making now find themselves out of work, will the shaymen be reformed as phoenix shay and kick the protagonists in the preverbials , I hope so.

Just think about what you have said. Do you really think they would squander vast amounts of their own money if they didn't want to be involved?

they didn't squander their own money. they borrowed it in the name of the club . so the B&H retards have walked away smiling coz they've had a little dabble a bit of fun and have now probably gone on holiday having not lost a penny and not even givin town a second thought. a pair of 1st rate *****.

Relt, as sq says, was not their own money they played with, and if they were serious, the £8000 was surley a drop in the ocean to clear the straw that eventually broke the camels back ! I agree with sq they are probably now on r&r working pout their next victims

The £8,000 was a drop in the ocean but not the £850K owed to the HMRC. B & H have made some mistakes, you are correct, but they are not the only ones.

The window of opportunity for Town came with the sale of Geoff Horsfield and the sell on from Chris Lucketti. That was the chance to put the club on an even footing at a decent level of football. The money and the opportunity were squandered and it has been a downward spiral ever since.

The current situation could only have been resolved by someone who was very very rich who had a real affinity for the club and who was prepared to spend millions putting it right.

Let's start again with nothing and say for the umpteenth time, " we must not get into this position again".

Relt, your observations seem correct on the surface, and I agree with them, should not the blame though lie equally between people who should know better? ie the management team (wilder exepted) and the creditors who let it get this far? what I wonder did Angie Firth do as general manager , was she not aware of the rising tide of outstanding debt and unpaid accounts and why did H M Inspector of Taxes let get that far again? Questions we may get one day get truthful answers to. I like a lot of people who have commented elsewhere, wish what is left, success in the future, and the glory that can be Hx town again

The only time that football will be able to be played in halifax is if all the 200 so called fans/supporters pay at the turnstile just what it costs to stage a match at the shay.

Figures previously quoted are that it costs in the region of £50 per person/fan/supporter to stage a match at the shay. Therefore each person passing through the turnstiles need to pay a minimum of £60 to make football in halifax viable.

Just how many ex-HTFC fans/supporters would or could afford to pay this amount - people with other sports, pastimes and hobbies have to find the money from somewhere to keep persuing their hobby, why should footbal be any different?

ex-HTFC have never been any good at all.

Only taking money from local companies and loans from individuals and then never repaying them, and they cannot see that they are just a set of scoungers.

Let it die now, save everyone time and money!
