HALIFAX have finished on the wrong end of a hiding in their Co-operative Championship clash at the Halton Stadium, losing 42-16 to title rivals Widnes.
The home side took an early lead through an Iain Morrison touchdown, converted by former Halifax stand off Tim Hartley.
But Matt Calland's visitors, who sprang a surprise before kick off by naming supposedly crocked full back Miles Greenwood in thei
r starting side, replied with a super finish by winger James Haley, Lee Paterson kicking the goal.
Widnes regained their advantage through a Paddy Flynn touchdown, goaled by Hartley, before Shay old boy Richard Varkulis powered over on the left flank.
Fax's woes were compounded when Greenwood, who had limped from the field early in last week's loss to Featherstone with a knee injury, collapsed after an apparently innocuous kick return and was stretchered from the field.
And when ex Widnes player Bob Beswick threw a loose pass on half way, the flying Flynn finished with genuine pace and Hartley kicked the goal to put the Vikings in total control.
Things got worse after the interval, with Toa Kohe Love, Ben Kavanagh and Flynn all scoring for the Vikings.
Paterson pulled a try back for Fax, but a brace of Hartley penalties pushed Widnes further ahead before Frank Watene crossed, goaled by Paterson.
