A HEROIC maximum by Tradesmen 1's Ken Scott proved in vain as his side were beaten by Greetland Social C in their opening Pennine Tool Hire Halifax and District Association Winter League Division Two clash.
Scott gave Tradesmen an excellent start, winning in three straight games against Peter Hennessy 13-11, 11-6, 12-10, but Greetland reeled off the next three sets, which all went to four games

Firstly Rathmell beat Dave Pickard 11-3, 2-11, 8-11, 9-1
1, then Johnson overcame Denise Scott and Hennessy beat Pickard in another four game match, before Scott pulled a set back with a convincing 11-6, 11-7, 11-8 win over Kevin Johnson.

Rathmell restored the two set lead as he beat Denise Scott 5-11, 6-11, 8-11 but Pickard kept Tradesmen hopes flickering with a four game victory against Johnson 11-6, 9-11, 11-6, 11-2.

In the penultimate set Scott won the first 11-8 against Hennessy. However, she was edged out in the next three 9-11, 9-11, 8-11 as Greetland clinched the win.

Scott's 12-10, 10-12, 11-3, 6-11, 11-9 win over Rathmell in the final set was too late to make any difference.

Hx TTC Chimps also opened their campaign with a win, James Foster claiming an impressive maximum against Hx TTC Rams, while Clive Sherratt of Hx TTC Embassy B was the star performer in their superb win against HxTTC Suma 2 with a maximum backed up with two wins each from Derek Briggs and Steve Crossland.
