THE first "Punx Fest" in Halifax raised more than £600 for Cancer Research UK –despite bands and gig-goers having to be evacuated when someone set off a fire alarm.
Eight bands – including State of Error, AB Negative and Unrelated Incidents – played at North Bridge Leisure Centre.

The gig was organised by Danny Moore, 18, State of Error's drummer, the band's singer Richard Hadley and friends Charlotte Gooding, Emily Oates and Michael Turner, and £623 was raised.

Danny's mum Tracy thanked First Floor Music, Bull Green, Halifax, for providing the sound and raffle; Mike Smith for the lighting and the staff at the leisure centre for their understanding. "Punx Fest will be back, even better and bigger, next year," she said.

  • A mini music festival at the Allan Fold, King Cross, Halifax on Sunday, hosted by Nick Phelps of 13lights and featuring singer-songwriter Allan Leach plus Codego, Scuffers Romance, Petross, Bow Street Runners and Fear the Lizard, raised £110 for Overgate Hospice from a raffle and the sale of hot dogs. Another Fold Fest will be held on June 29.
