AN orchestra appealed for a blacksmith's anvil for an unusual performance and was inundated with offers.
Around 30 people got in touch with Halifax Symphony Orchestra after the plea in the Courier to offer an anvil for its concert at the Victoria Theatre, Halifax.

The group chose an anvil from Chris Greenwood, of Hebden Bridge, for A Night at the Opera with the Overgate Hospice Choir on May 17.

Publicity officer Barbara Slade said: "We had a fantastic response and now have an anvil with a good ring.

"We want to thank everyone who got in touch."

The concert will raise money for the hospice.
