MARCHING band Elland Anchormen are backing a competition called Flags along the Pennines at Huddersfield Sports Centre on Sunday.
The Drum Corps UK Northern Regional Winterguard contest will host 10 guards and three exhibition performances from groups from Sheffield, Barnsley, Wakefield and Preston in four classes.
The event returns to Huddersfield Sports Centre after a 10-y
ear absence.
During the late 1980s and 1990s the Anchormen sponsored show was one of the most popular shows on the Winterguard circuit due to the acoustics and close seating at Huddersfield.
The competition will include a cadet class for members aged five to 11, junior class and A class under 25 and a class for open age.
Over the last couple of years the Anchormen colour guard has had great success being Junior Champions in 2007 and 2009 and junior runners up in 2008.
The day's activities will be opened by the old boys' band of the 5th Halifax (Elland) Boys Brigade marching band – the fore runner of the Anchormen Drum and Bugle Corps – who will open the show with nostalgic tunes from the marching band world of the 1960s and 70s.
Admission is £7 for adults and £5 concessions and children under 12. Doors open at 12.30pm and the show starts at 1pm.
