BIG Jim Sullivan, one of the most revered guitarists of the last 50 years, is coming to Calderdale to offer budding musicians first-hand tips.
He is halfway through a special masterclass tour of northern Europe and on Thursday will be showcasing styles and techniques live at Guitar Zone, Unit DY2, Dean Clough, Halifax, (7pm).

Big Jim – who got his nickname to differentiate him from his contemporary and friend "Little" Jimmy Page – has played guitar on more than 1,000 hit singles, seamlessly traversing the genres of rock 'n' roll, classical, jazz, country, blues and pop effortlessly with his rare talent.

He is one of the most sought-after session players in the world and has toured and recorded with global icons such as Tom Jones and Olivia Newton John as well as composing for artists such as Van Morrison.

"My whole life is geared to play guitar. I play what I want when I want and I hope the listener gets as much pleasure listening to the music as I get playing it," he said.

In the classes Jim – who used to teach Deep Purple's Richie Blackmore – will be exclusively playing Peerless guitars who have been manufacturing quality guitars for 38 years, supplying some of the best known and respected brands in the music industry.

Guitarists are welcome to turn up on the night with or without a guitar.
