BIG band music played by teenagers will be echoing around the walls of The Playhouse, King Cross Street, Halifax, on Sunday (7pm).
Calderdale Big Band was formed more than five years ago to give young musicians a chance to play that style of music, keeping it alive for the next generation. Most of the musicians are under 18 as many go to university at that age but several return and play during their holidays.

Musical director is Mark Chandler, a talented trumpet player who has played with many well-known big bands. The band usually plays four or five concerts or dances during the year, ending with a Christmas concert at the Victoria Hall, Ripponden, where they rehearse every Thursday during term-time and often during the school holidays.

Tickets, £5, are available by calling 01422 823656 or 01422 250099.

  • A review of the evening will appear in Monday's Courier.
